Jonathan Ruest

Photography, Audio Production

Jonathan Ruest is a professional photographer and creator specializing in the tactical, firearms, outdoors, preparedness and overlanding spaces. Currently residing in Los Angeles, Jonathan can be found at one of the many Southern California shooting ranges, in the desert or in the mountains camping and shooting content.

Growing up in the northeast, the outdoors has always played an integral role in Jonathan’s upbringing. Later in childhood, he found a passion for all things creative, focusing early in life on music and audio production. After completing a degree in audio production from Emerson College, Jonathan made the trek to Los Angeles to pursue his career. It is there that he became immersed in the world of photography and videography – a combination of each of his passions.

What motivates you in the morning?

Personal Progress. We each have an opportunity to learn something new every day.

What is your mantra for when things are tough?

Be grateful.

If you could do anything else, what would it be and why?

Full Time RV living. This country has so much to offer. If I could walk away from everything right now, I would spend my time traveling, exploring and shooting content.

Describe your best moment ever.

The first time I drove across the country and experienced the changes in scenery day-to-day. From the endless cornfields, towering mountains, to the scale of the formations in the Utah desert, nothing can prepare you for the emotional reset you get from experiencing this entire country from the road.

How did you get into your profession?

Photography was the natural culmination of my personal and professional efforts. I never pursued it to make it a job, I pursued it because it combined everything I waspassionate about. To me, it defines the idea of doing what you love and the rest will follow.

What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?

Learning to say “Yes, I can”. That is the first step to learning something new. When faced with a question of if you have the ability to do something, it’s easy to say “No”. Saying “Yes” is where personal growth begins.
