What does it take to survive in the outdoors in Winter? Or perhaps we should rephrase that question into something more specific, what can we all do to better prepare ourselves for a Winter Season emergency situation - accident, breakdown or getting lost.
If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s the value of being prepared. Give yourself the gift of preparedness this season, with all the peace of mind that comes with it. To that end, we’ve asked our roster of all-star Pelican PRO Team members to help us construct a list of their favorite Holiday giftable gear, and the results are nothing short of a preppers dream inventory of Pelican Cases, Coolers and Lights.
September Marks National Preparedness Month
As our nation continues to respond to COVID-19, being prepared for an emergency or natural disaster is more important than ever. And with many people working from home, there is no better time than National Preparedness Month to plan ahead by practicing emergency prep. The reality is that the pandemic adds a level of complexity to the threat of natural disasters, requiring us all to be even more self-reliant in case a natural disaster strikes.
In honor of our late founder, David Parker, we created a special edition commemorative first aid kit. It was extremely limited edition with only 100 in existence, and we are proud to say that it sold out in four hours. All proceeds will benefit the Fallen Firefighters Foundation to help the surviving members of brave first responders who gave their lives on the job.
At Pelican, we strive to create durable, reliable products that last a lifetime, built by American workers. But you really can’t talk about Pelican’s American manufacturing without paying tribute to its late founder, David H. Parker. Pelican Products’ rise from a garage in Torrance, CA to a U.S.A.-based corporation that sells products to professionals around the globe is the result of his vision and hard work. Although the first product Mr. Parker invented was a small marker buoy used to pinpoint the location of submerged divers, it was a first aid kit designed specifically for divers that really put him on the map. When customers started repurposing the waterproof, crushproof and dustproof cases to store other items, Mr. Parker saw an opportunity to expand his product selection. It wasn’t long before he tapped into emerging plastics engineering to make a line of durable equipment protection cases that could be used for a wide range of purposes.

Times of crisis, as it’s always been in our collective history, are times for our communities to think reflectively on how our individual actions can help positively impact our greater society. As we’ve seen in the news recently, acts of kindness, compassion and helpfulness are a hallmark of troubled times, and here at Pelican, we’d like to encourage the expansion of this mindset. This blog post is written for those who wish to increase their readiness and the readiness of their loved ones, so that if the situation presents itself, you have the ability to react and help another in need.
Here at Pelican, it’s in our DNA to celebrate the muddy, drenched and downright dirty jobs in which our products are trusted to perform.

Have you ever had a moment like this before? Where your purpose in life, your passion, can be traced back to a single moment when it seems like the world pointed you towards the career that you were meant for? Now even if this moment occurred to you Today or Tomorrow, would you have the courage to ignore all the reasons why it might not work and commit to pursuing your passion and purpose?
Times were different then. When American WWII Veterans returned home, an entire generation of young men and women servicemembers just wanted to move on with their lives. Scattered across the rural American heartland and into bustling metropolises, many of our vets didn’t reconnect with their comrades until their senior years.
For the past 15 years, Donnie Edwards, NFL star and dedicated philanthropist, has been bringing World War II Veterans back to their forign battlefields to foster brotherhood and closure for these heroes. With the help of his wife Kathryn Edwards, the Best Defense Foundation was created, helping these Veterans join a once in a lifetime experience with the program at zero personal expense. The foundation works hand in hand with the US military, NGOs, fellow nonprofits and governments to coordinate the opportunity for these veterans to share their stories with new and old generations, all of which owe the debt of their freedom to these heroes.
Today is Peace Officer’s Memorial Day - a moment where we take time to honor what it takes to enforce the laws that keep our society fair and even for all. A tremendous sacrifice, an undeniably volatile lifestyle - constantly working with the most extreme, violent and vulnerable elements of our community.
Leaders are what we need today, those who lead from the front, check their ego at the door and dive in head-first to the day's challenge. The days roll on, and bit by bit - their impact can start to be felt in relentless progress. We can't help but be inspired by these examples amongst us.

Pelican engineering is constantly evolving to create top-quality gear that best serves professionals on the job. That’s why our engineers work closely with police departments who rely on our tactical products to review and give feedback on what features they need on the force. For Pelican’s newest 7 series tactical flashlights, two hard-working pros gave us their honest feedback. What do these officers have in common? Both Sergeant William Seymour of the Tulare County Sherriff’s Department and Zachary Hathaway, Law Enforcement Officer with the Department of Homeland Security, use and depend on Pelican gear every day on the job. Recently, they reviewed Pelican’s 7070R and 7620 tactical flashlights and spoke to us about what’s most important for them in a police flashlight.
My name is Kirstie Ennis. I have not been on this Earth long, but I have been through more than most would in a lifetime. I served six years in the United States Marine Corps as a helicopter door gunner and airframes mechanic. On June 23, 2012, during my last deployment to Afghanistan, I was involved in a helicopter crash and suffered a traumatic brain injury, severe facial trauma, a left leg above the amputation, damage to my cervical spine and my upper arms. It was the defining moment in my life.

Here at Pelican, we’ve been a part of the Firefighter and First Responder Community for many, many years. When 9/11 happened, we grieved with the rest of the country and were galvanized by tragedy - knowing that we have to help honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. The Pelican Products 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb serves as a way to honor and remember the FDNY firefighters who selflessly gave their lives so that others might live on September 11th, 2001. Each participant pays tribute to an FDNY firefighter by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center, commemorating those brave men and women and honoring them each year with this tribute.
When we see a fire and the brave firefighters who battle the blaze on TV, we rarely stop to consider the photographer who courageously captured these moments in the thick of the action. When Roy Pena photographed his first fire, he had no idea that those adrenaline-filled moments would ignite a passion for photographing these scenes years later officially for the Bakersfield Fire Department.
In early 2017, a San Bernardino County Fire crew was responding to a semi-truck rollover on a Southern California freeway when they found themselves and their truck teetering on the edge of a lane that had been washed away by rushing floodwaters.

We rely on our protective gear to live up to its promises, perform as described, keep equipment safe and dry and accessible at a moment’s notice. It’s important for a product to hold true to high standards. And in this instance, it was vital.
One of the most important considerations when choosing a professional, Safety Certified Light is the safety requirement for your particular environment and the needed, corresponding certification of your light - whether on an oil rig, down within a mine with combustibles or just for preparedness in emergency situations, it’s imperative to choose the light that best fits the environment and fully considers all safety precautions in the exact moment you need it.
Founded in 1976 with roots in the diving industry, Pelican has since applied their groundbreaking technology to servicing members of the law enforcement community. Originating with specialized cases, various equipment could quickly and conveniently be stored by Law Enforcement professionals to ensure efficiency in the moment where every second matters.
The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) partners with Pelican Products to enhance the way their troops are fed while out conducting patrol and exercises in the field. Their military deploys all over Africa, so you can imagine the brutal temporal and geographic conditions these coolers must withstand. In fact, South Africa is crowned with the Earth's hottest temperature ever recorded in the month of October, which occurred on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, when the town of Vredendal hit a remarkable 119.1°F (source). With these extremes in mind, SANDF needed to find solutions that could handle intense temperature fluctuations as well as the durability required to function in the African bush.
