IP-Schutzklasse
IP-Einstufungen („Ingress Protection” = Schutz vor Eindringen) werden in dem internationalen Standard EN 60529 definiert und bewerten das Maß des Schutzes, das von elektrischen Gehäusen gegen das Eindringen von Feststoffen und Flüssigkeiten (Objekte, Partikel, Staub, Wasser usw.) geboten wird.
Je höher der Wert jeder Ziffer, desto höher der Schutz.

| 4 | Protected against solid objects greater than 1mm in size, like a thick wire |
| 5 | Dust protected. Limited ingress of dust permitted. Will not interfere with operation of the equipment |
| 6 | Dust tight. No ingress of dust |
Liquids

| 3 | Protected against water spray at 60° angle |

| 7 | Water tight against the effects of temporary submersion in water. Test requires 30 minute at 1 meter depth |
| 8 | Watertight against the effects of continuous submersion in water (up to 4 hours) |
