Henry Villarama

Photojournalist

Henry Villarama is a photojournalist specializing in highlighting military service members and capabilities. He is honored to document and highlight our nation’s sons and daughters at the front line of history.

Henry used his extensive experience photographing and documenting the U.S. mission to NATO across Europe. As a paratrooper with multiple combat deployments, and a background in special operations, he has experienced unique situations that have helped to develop his craft as a photographer.

  

What motivates you in the morning?

My family motivates me to be the best version of myself everyday. My wife and kids are my number one fans and I know they depend on me.

What is your mantra for when things are tough?

When times get tough, I remind myself where my strength comes from and why I do what I do. In the field or at home, I constantly remind myself of who depends on me and what it means for me to endure through the trials I face.

If you could do anything else, what would it be and why?

If I could be doing any other job in the world, it would be working as a mechanic for Porsche Motorsports. All Porsche owners know there is something incredibly special about driving that brand of car. I’ve always been interested in automotive mechanics and would.

Describe your best moment ever.

By far, the best moment(s) in my life has been watching my children being born into the world. There is nothing that I have experienced that has even come close. The anticipation, the wonder, the miracle, the entire experience tied into such an emotional moment. I’ve had the honor of experiencing this twice. Both times were the most incredible feelings I've ever felt.

How did you get into your profession?

Years of freelance photography helped me to find my way to becoming a military photojournalist. Through military photojournalism, I found my passion for being at the cutting edge of wherever the action was.

What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?

The best piece of advice I've received is to not lie about who you are -especially to yourself. Be honest with yourself and don’t try to be anything you’re not. Be who you are.
