What motivates you in the morning?
Every day is a chance to experience something new!
What is your mantra for when things are tough?
When things start going sideways, I try to remember that most problems can be broken into smaller problems – start solving small problems one at a time and eventually the momentum will grow as you make progress toward the larger goal.
If you could do anything else, what would it be and why?
If money were no concern, I’d find a plane and fly to somewhere new every week to explore as much of the world as possible! But for a profession, I’m lucky to already be doing my dream job.
Describe your best moment ever.
One of the most rewarding things in life is to truly help someone else. Besides the obvious answers like “marrying my wife,” some of my best moments have been when I look back in the helicopter cabin and see the look of relief on someone’s face after rescuing them. The opportunity to help someone out like that who is having a really bad day is truly incredible.
How did you get into your profession?
I knew from a fairly young age that I wanted to be involved in military aviation and search and rescue, and despite living in the desert I thought being by the ocean would be awesome too. So after high school I went to a military college for 4 years, then flight school for another 2 years, and eventually started my career serving the maritime community on the East Coast.
What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?
Treat others how you want to be treated, and never waste a day.
What are your top three Pelican products?
My first Pelican product was a two-gun carrying case (1750 Protector) that I was able to transport my match rifles to and from college in. My use for the case has varied since I purchased it, from transporting firearms for hunting to moving to new duty stations. To this day it remains a solid piece of gear. I also have a small Pelican light (1930 L1) that I fly with –it’s a small, unassuming light but it is the perfect companion for night flying as it has a breakaway neck strap, color filters for night vision, and an almost indestructible case. I never takeoff at night without it. My next Pelican productsI want to procure area small, lightweight carrying case for my camera and lensas well as the Air Travel case (1615 TRVL). The advantage of transporting in a Pelican is the assurance that the gear will be protected against the elements and against hard impacts.
