Be Prepared with Pelican: Emergency Supply Kit Essentials
With the recent devastating floods, storms and tornadoes affecting much of the Midwestern and Southern states, it’s important to be prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws our way.
Having an emergency supply kit is the first step in being prepared. Allow the team at Pelican Products to give you a short checklist of the necessary items to include in your home emergency kit.
Storage. Before you prepare your kit, you’ll first need something to store your emergency supplies. Many of our protective cases will give your provisions the ultimate protection needed during an event of crisis. Our best solution would be our 1500 Case, which allows ample room for the items in your emergency kit.
Food and water. If you and your family are affected from a disaster, local health and law enforcement officials may not be able to reach you immediately. It’s wise to have a short supply of food and water at your disposal. You’ll want to include at least one gallon of drinking water per family member per day for three days. As for food, you’ll want at least a three-day supply. Remember to include non-perishable foods such as dried fruits, nuts, granola bars or crackers.
Flashlights. During an emergency situation, it is likely that you’ll lose power to your home. To counter this, it is important to include a Pelican LED flashlight in your emergency supply kit. Don’t stop there, having extra batteries for your flashlight is key for survival.
Entertainment for kids. Entertaining kids during a severe storm can be difficult. Be sure to have a few fun activities for them such as coloring books, puzzles or their favorite toy. Keeping them calm is the priority here. The last thing you need is a crying kid while trying to get the power up and running.
Disasters can strike at anytime, so it’s necessary that you and your family are prepared. What other supplies do you deem necessary in your supply kit? Sound off in the comments below.
